BPA, PVC and Phthalate Free Nuby Baby Product Guide

!±8± BPA, PVC and Phthalate Free Nuby Baby Product Guide

Are you worried about that Nuby cup your baby is drinking from? Take a minute to review the following list of safe Nuby options before you throw it out in a panic. Nuby's naming system can be confusing, but educating yourself on what's what will help you avoid toxic plastic. I've confirmed with Nuby which products are free of bisphenol-a and phthalates. They informed me that all of their products are PVC free as well.

Nuby makes hundreds of products, so this list is not comprehensive, but it will give you a great foundation for providing your children with safer feeding options.

Nuby Bottles:

7 oz 3-Stage Standard Neck Bottle w/ handles and soft silicone spout included 11 oz 3-Stage Standard Neck Bottle w/ handles and soft silicone spout included 10 oz Tinted Bottles With Bottles with Non-Drip Nipples (3 pack)

All Nuby Flip-it Cap Sippys and Flip-it Straw Cups do contain some BPA in the flip-it cover. The liquid does not come in contact with the flip-it cover, so I would still recommend them as a good option. Use your own discretion when purchasing.

Nuby Replacement Spouts

!±8± Nuby Replacement Spouts

I am a grandmother who has used Nuby sippy cups for many years and my family and I think they are the best for price and functionality.  I was throwing out the sippy cups when the spouts would wear out and I felt badly about doing so because it takes plastic many years to dissolve in landfills.  Then I discovered that Luv 'n Care, the manufacturer of Nuby products, came out with Nuby replacement spouts for their 10 oz Nuby sippy gripper cups.

The newest nuby replacement spouts are a better quality of silicone and as such, they seem to be stronger and hold up for a longer period of time. The older spouts were a bit softer and the spout valves seemed to break more easily. There were no reinforcements on the inside of the spout like there are now. In addition, the spouts are made of silicone and are BPA or bisphenol A free.

The Luv n Care company still requests that parents closely monitor their children while they are using the Nuby sippy cup replacement spouts. If a baby or toddler is teething, they have a tendency to chew on the spouts. In turn, although the spouts are touted as being leak proof and spill proof, once the spout valve is broken inside, the sippy cups will begin to leak.

Having personally used these sippy cups for my children and now for my newest grand child who is now 13 months old, I have tried numerous times to make the cups leak. They did leak when I put the lid on wrong. The new Nuby replacement spouts have notches on them. Those notches have to line up with the notches that are on the rim of the lid that screws onto the sippy cup. If you don't line up the notches and you don't screw the lid on correctly, you may have a problem. Otherwise, I have tried to make these sippy cups leak by shaking them rather violently and they do not leak if you follow the directions.

The Nuby replacement spouts seemed to last about a month when my granddaughter started teething and had actual teeth erupting. I always check the spout valves now to make sure she isn't breaking them as she bites and I never leave her alone with any sippy cup. I don't want her to choke on her milk either.

The Nuby replacement spouts are very hard to find but there may be some Walmart stores carrying them and if not, some of the Baby Depot Stores within Burlington may carry them. Other wise, you can find them on the internet by visiting the resource box below.

If you ever purchase any Nuby product that you have a problem with, Luv n Care customer service is wonderful and they will make every attempt to help correct the problem. You can reach them at their corporate offices in writing or by phone at:

Nuby Sippy Cup Replacement Spouts - Help Save Our Landfills!

!±8± Nuby Sippy Cup Replacement Spouts - Help Save Our Landfills!

Nuby replacement spouts are products are made by the well known and respected company called Luv 'n Care. One of their most popular products is the 10 ounce Nuby sippy cup. It comes in an assortment of bright colors and has a no spill, no drip, soft, silicone spout that babys and toddlers alike seem to like to drink from and yes, chew on.

Time after time again, parents and grandparents would toss away their toddler's favorite cups which are made of a non-toxic plastic. That was such a waste in many ways. Nuby decided it was time to make at least one nuby replacement spout. They chose the 10 oz sippy cup because it is their best selling cup. Now Nuby sippy cup lovers all over the world no longer have to throw away their 10 oz cups. All they have to do is replace the spouts.

If the cups are so great, why do the spouts wear out? Just like any other silicone product, when it is used repeatedly, it begins to wear through normal use. Toddlers rarely use the Nuby sippy cup normally when they decide that it should become their new favorite chew toy. The spouts are nice and soft and as the toddler squeezes the spouts between his/her teeth and uses it to chew on, after time, the spout will start to drip. That's a sure sign that the spout needs to be replaced.

It is very important to check the Nuby spouts regularly (just as you should your baby's pacifier) to make sure the spout is not beginning to get worn. If it is leaking it is a sure sign that the spout needs to be replaced.

Nuby has made replacing the spouts on the 10 oz cups very convenient. Although hard to find in most stores, the nuby replacement spouts are available on Ebay and in some select Walmarts and Sears stores nationwide. They come two in a package. It's a good rule of thumb to keep several on hand, especially if your child is teething or chewing on the spouts.

The spouts are inexpensive. Now there is no need to toss away the plastic cup into the landfill or recycle bin. The cups can be used over and over again with the new spouts. Changing them is as simple as popping one out and popping the next one in. Just make sure you put water in the sippy cup with the new spout on it to make sure the seals are lined up properly so the liquid doesn't leak out around the rim of the lid.

Some Nuby lovers are just waiting for Nuby to come out with other sizes of replacement spouts and even the rims that sometimes get lost. So far there is no word from Luv n Care that they are planning on manufacturing any other sizes in the near future.

How Do I Fix My Sippy Cup When It is Leaking?

!±8± How Do I Fix My Sippy Cup When It is Leaking?

Moms are busy enough as it is and having to deal with a no-leak, no-spill sippy cup that isn't supposed to leak or spill can be very upsetting. What's a mom to do?

There are several different styles of sippy cups. As such, some of the sippy cups have valves in them and some don't. The newer styles come without valves and the older ones can now get replacement valves for their cups. Each cup has it's benefits and drawbacks, however, overall, the sippy cups are among the most highly rated by moms and kids everywhere according to many of the blogs and reviews that you read.

The first thing to check on your sippy cup is how the lid is fitting. There are threads on both the lid and on the cup that need to match up. If they don't match up then the cup will leak. One way to test your cup is to open the package when you get it and fill the sippy cup with water. Put the lid on it and then take it and shake it every which way over the sink to see if the cup is leaking in any spots. If it isn't, then there is a good chance that you closed the cup the right way. If it is, then open it again and reclose it. This may take some trial and error but with a few tries your toddler will be running off with his or her new favorite cup.

Another thing to keep in mind before blaming the sippy cup for leaking is that you may have a smart toddler. I'm sure you are aware that our little angels can learn how to open doors and cabinets so what would stop them from learning how to untwist their sippy cup? Just a thought but I'm sure there are a lot of little Einsteins in the making out there just trying to find new ways to give their mommies something else to do!

If your Nuby sippy cup has a valve, then please please please read the directions. There are ways to adjust the valves so the milk can flow according to your baby's needs. Therefore, if you just try the cup and nothing comes out or the milk pours all over the floor then chances are, you didn't read the directions. You will still need to make sure the threads are still lined up too even if your cup has valves.

Another important thing to keep in mind is that it is harder to clean the sippy cups that have the valves. The new sippy cups with no valves are a breeze to keep clean. If you don't clean the older sippy cups well then you may unknowingly get a milk buildup inside the valve which would interfere with the way the sippy cup performs.

If your sippy cup still continues to leak, take it back to the place of purchase and ask for a new one. If it leaks, then by all means, switch brands. Sippy cups are very popular and most of the reviews you read will be very positive. The cups have become the favorites of babies and toddlers everywhere. When you do read the negative reviews, please keep in mind to check the dates of the reviews and the number of comments verses the number of people who visit the site and leave comments. Believe it or not, there are unscrupulous marketers out there who have their own agendas who might be trying to sabotage a good name just to make themselves look better.

For those moms who expect their sippy cups to last forever, that, unfortunately, just isn't going to happen. the truth is that when your toddler starts to chew on the cups, whether they be Nuby cups, Nuby pacifiers, or any other brand of sippy cup or pacifier, the cups will start to show wear and tear. Besides, how many times do you think a cup can be thrown on the ground or the concrete and take such a beating without wearing out. Sometimes the sippy cups become projectiles flying through the air at untold speeds causing us to duck and run for fear of our lives. Even worse, Rover can get his paws on them and turn them into chew toys.

You should realistically expect to have to change the lids at least every month after your toddler starts teething and chewing and for safety purposes, always check your sippy cups and pacifiers to make sure they are still in good condition.

As in all cases, even though the manufacturers take great care to make baby product safe, you, as a parent or grandparent must take responsibility for overseeing your baby's health and well being as well. For future reference, the address for the manufacturer of Nuby baby products as of this article is: Luv n' Care 2805 Saint Charles Ave Monroe, LA 71201 (318) 388-4916 Listen through to the prompts and choose consumer.
